What Is Online Therapy?

Our clinic offers video and over the phone therapy sessions. We apply the same ethos and goals to our online therapy as our in-person methods. Depending on your therapist, email correspondence is a possible outlet, allowing for more time to reflect on emotions and feelings before checking in. This “zone of reflection” applies to video and phone therapy as well, allowing for less perceived pressure in answering exploratory questions.

What Are The Benefits of Online Therapy?

Technology and therapy are not strangers, to say the least, and telehealth has been a supportive asset in the mental health world for a while now. Its importance is much more apparent in today’s climate, where if online services weren’t offered, people wouldn’t be able to seek help. The benefits of telehealth/telepsychology/teletherapy have been widely studied over the past few decades and countless trials have discovered that the use of online therapeutic services can be just as effective as in-person counseling and medicine. According to the Journal of Affective Disorder, The Cyberpsychology Journal, and The Journal of Behavior and Networking, even messaging therapy is as beneficial as traditional, face to face methods.

This advancement in the mental health field is a massive step for many individuals who did not have access to care, have chronic illnesses that prevent them from leaving their homes, and those who cannot afford a traditional route to psychiatric care. The benefits of utilizing online therapy, regardless of the COVID-19 context, are vast. Unnecessary stigma, unfortunately, is still attached to seeking mental health treatment, and having the option to receive treatment in your own home can be a major supportive factor in even getting help.

For many people, especially those with anxiety, depression, and trauma, receiving treatment in their own, safe space seems like a much more achievable and mentally do-able option than traveling to a therapist, being in an unknown environment for an extended period, and not having the freedom to dictate some of the smaller, comforting details. Using telehealth has also been shown to increase feelings of a more even playing field for the client, allowing discovery of the core issues much quicker. Alongside this, is an increased sense of anonymity that is oftentimes a major barrier towards digging into the actual roots of symptoms and mental health struggles. Our clinic aims to ensure a sense of horizontal learning and empathy throughout all of our online and in-person sessions and all interactions with you.

Online Therapy and COVID-19

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Healing is a complicated journey, not an impossible one. Opening your heart and mind to your own well-being will enlighten your path and reveal your destination.

It’s important to us as a clinic that our ethos and non-traditional approaches don’t fade away in the face of technology. We aim to maintain the high standard of integrative care even through these new mediums many people are just now adjusting to. Globally, it has been found that creating and utilizing a peer relationship is an effective base for counseling, even across cultures. It allows an empathic trust to guide the treatment and we believe that this is extremely achievable in online therapy, mainly because you are in your own home, which immediately instills a sense of confidence and power in your own abilities.

Our goal with transferring most of our services to online methods is to maintain the same holistic and integrative experience as our face-to-face counseling. We merely reframe our approach to include tools and strategies that apply to today’s context and your added life stressors. Your mental health and growth are still the priority in our treatment, and we believe our individualized and mindful ethos still shines through our online-focused counseling.

Our Therapeutic Approaches

Holistic & Transpersonal

Our insight-oriented approach allows your own experiences to guide your treatment path. Your therapist will use the information they’re given from your communicative style, past issues, and current raising of issues, to determine the most productive course of action. All of this can be determined just as with in-person approaches (i.e. reading non-verbal cues, exploratory conversations, etc.). You exist as a cognitive, emotional, and physical being and we maintain that priority in our online treatment. We still offer holistic guidance and tools to address the physical manifestations of your symptoms.

‘You’-centric & Relational

To address whatever mental health struggle has brought you to seek online therapy, we still maintain a holistic and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) approach. EFT looks at you as a whole person or you as a couple, your present symptoms/barriers, and emotionally driven interpretations, and uses this transpersonal and valuable information to address unhealthy patterns of behavior, social connections, and mood disorders. The term holistic also applies to you as not just an individual, but as part of a wider social unit. Our integrative behavioral approach removes yourself from what can be an all-encompassing experience of your symptoms. This assists us, and yourself, in determining how to maintain a healthy, empathetic, and productive functioning.

Mindfulness

By remaining in the present moment and acknowledging the current goals of a healthier daily life for you and your family, a narrative can be brought forth, even through online therapy. We approach this the same way we would with in-person therapy, by guiding you through your in-the-moment emotional reactions and experiences to find a deeper root of what is causing you mental distress.

Your Counseling Experience

Each therapeutic experience is different, and each session can unlock helpful and new paths to explore in the healing process. The below are just to give you a general idea, hopefully instilling a bit of confidence and easing of any worry associated with seeking treatment.
